Welcome to OLD PUEBLO PRESS llc home of PEEP The Cactus Dragon, an exciting children's book that tells the story of the world's only "green desert" - The Sonoran Desert of the American Southwest and northern Mexico. This full-color 28-page story is based on a photograph of a giant Saguaro cactus that resembles a green dragon, but can be seen from only one small spot in the sprawling Saguaro National Park at Tucson, Arizona. The story, by journalist and photographer Donald L. Collins, is in rhyme as  an English and Spanish diglot. It is highlighted by beautiful illustrations by artist Kathy Robbins showing all the major animals and plants of this unique desert. PEEP is now available in a special limited first edition of 500 copies. It has a special author/illustrator signature page for early subscribers, staff, volunteers and friends of Saguaro National Park. This signed, limited edition of PEEP The Cactus Dragon will be available only at book signings or ordered through this website and will NOT be available in book stores. We are also in the process of working with educators creating lesson plans for use in a variety of classroom situations including environmental education, ESL, creative writing and language arts programs.  This book makes a great gift for children and grandchildren of both residents of this region and "snowbirds" who often tell their grandchildren stories of their desert experience.

This is the original photograph of a giant Saguaro cactus located in Saguaro National Park in Tucson, Arizona, that was the inspiration for PEEP The Cactus Dragon. This dragon-like configuration of several arms on the cactus is visible from one very small spot. More than two steps in any direction makes PEEP appear as an ordinary Saguaro.  And below is how PEEP looks as he tells his story of the animals and plants of the the Sonoran Desert in English and Spanish.
Here's a sample illustration, verse and translation.

Peep looks down
And all around
In the moonlight he can see
A rooting, snorting, nightime cavorting
Javelina family.

Peep mira hacia abajo, y a todo su alrededor
En la luz de la el puede ver
Hocicando, resoplando,
Retozando nocturno
A una famila de jabalis
